With Michelle Obama's initiative to curb obesity with the use of My Plate, what could be a better idea than Precise Portions!

Professional Triathlete & Ironman; "Real people inspire me!"


Josh Zitomar, a professional triathlete and accomplished ironman is no stranger to the health and fitness industry. Zitomar, created Physicalfix, an individually customized training program, after concerns that he would not be able to effectively train recording artist Alicia Keys while she travelled.  Zitomar may seem like the perfectly focused and muscled triathlete but he does enjoy a slice of pizza every now and then.

How do you prepare for a triathlon?
You have to be perfect mentally! There comes a point in the race where its not physical anymore it becomes all mental. The death race took 3 months of training.

Arrive at Your Destination Refreshed


Long plane rides can take a toll on our bodies.  If you are like me your body tightens up and you feel "pins and needles" in your feet.  From her past experiences of flying all over the world, Jade Alexis has learned how to stay loose on the plane with a mini workout and stretch routine.

"After 10 minutes into a 3 hour flight I cannot sit still!  I start by doing eagle arms in my seat then I will stand by the rest room and do eagle legs" said Jade Alexis. "These poses are very easy to do.  Simply hold each pose for about 20-30 seconds and repeat 4-5 times throughout your flight."

Another great exercise is calf raises, just be careful not to annoy the person next to you.

Volleyball Living Jade Style


The Living Jade team featured above, wearing their "Be Fit. Have fun. Live fierce!" tees, attended their first event in Long Beach, New York. 

While playing for fun and for and the Michelle O'neil foundation, the Living Jade volleyball team had a great time staying fit and active.  

"I was unable to attend the event but very happy to support and sponsor a team to play" said Jade Alexis.

The 'Yoga Rebel' - The New York Times


Tara Stiles named the 'Yoga Rebel' by the New York Times is a yoga instructor and anything but your typical yogini. She was raised in a tiny town in Illinois and as a young girl Stiles taught herself how to mediate.  As a teenager she was introduced to ballet and then began her journey to create a westernized version of yoga. Strala Yoga is a type of yoga that everyone can feel comfortable practicing. 

Why is yoga important?
It brings people to a place where they connect with themselves.  In yoga you can observe your habits and you can tell a lot about yourself by how well you practice yoga.

Low Fat, Low Calorie What Does This Mean?


Just because the box says "low fat" does not necessarily mean the product is really low in fat.  Make sure you read the label to understand how much fat there is per serving and how many serving sizes you will actually be consuming at one time. Just as when you see 'light' written on a product this does not mean that the product is lower in calories.

"If the original is very high in fat or calories then the light version may be too."

Hosting a Healthy Party


Last week Jade Alexis attended a Pirate themed birthday party. Like most health and fitness fanatics eating at a party can be quite grueling if there are a lack of healthy options. Luckily, this was not the case.

"For appetizers they passed around small hors d'oeuvres, instead of having the food sit on the table, which may cause people to over eat." said Jade. "My favorites were the scallops served on a tiny thin potato chop."

Living Without Regrets


Who is Wali Collins? An accomplished drummer,  the author of Y'NEVANO (You Never Know) and a comedian!  Wali has been doing stand up comedy in New York City, L.A and in Europe for many years now.  He started out like most, trying to make a name for himself.  Now Collins is one of the top comedians in New York City and he has been featured on Comedy Central, The David Letterman Show and many other television stations.  As funny as Collins may be, he takes his health very seriously.

It's a way of thinking, the key to happiness.  Basically teaching a frame of mind that tells you to go for your dreams.  You have to know how to live a regret less life and just be happy.

Overindulge Over Labor Day?


This past weekend was probably the perfect excuse to forget your healthy routines...Labor Day! Many of us fall victim to unhealthy snacks, skipping workouts and drinking lots of fattening beverages.  I caught up with Jade Alexis to figure out just how she was able to enjoy labor day and stay true to her mantra: Be fit. Have fun. Live fierce!

"Always remember moderation is key! and don't skip your workouts just because it is a holiday." Said Jade. She believes that we must always take care of our bodies from the inside out. "If you happen to indulge make sure the next day you workout and eat right, even if you have to detox that day."
