Stick to Routine: Family, Exercise & Nutrition

Good days and bad days everyone has them, it becomes a matter of being able to stick to your routine. Since Rebecca (my sister) has passed I have had trouble sleeping and there are days when I feel like doing absolutely nothing. However, sticking to routine with exercise and eating a well balanced diet has helped me.

When you are tired and low on energy proper diet and exercise can only help.  Exercise is an excellent way to clear your mind.  So I dragged myself to yoga classes at Pure Yoga in New York to enable me to relieve my stress. It felt so good to be active! For additional motivation, I teamed up with my family and friends to attend yoga classes.  My cousin and my younger sister were a great help.  Which brings me to FAMILY!

Spending time with family and good friends is so important. Whether you are mourning a loss, having financial issues, stressed out about work, or just having a bad day having family and friends around is key.  You can always count on friends and family for a good laugh. Laughter can help you boost your energy levels and relieve stress and pain (helpguide.org).

I was invited to attend Allan Houston's Father Knows Best event this past weekend at the Armory. The importance of family was definitely noted. After speaking with Allan Houston (pictured above), it was obvious how passionate he is about being a father. It was great to see so many fathers at the Armory with their kids.

During the event I was asked what my relationship was like with my father.  I was happy to say that my father raised 4 great kids, but what stuck out to me is the fact that from a young age my father encouraged all of us to participate in sports.  He was also our biggest supporter, he sat through all of our practices and games including, hockey, gymnastics, ballet, tennis, and basketball.  He helped create a solid foundation for athletics and fitness. Being in a family that is active encouraged us all to stay active as we grew up.  When I was a kid if I ever had a bad day at school I would stay late and shoot hoops, it was my therapy.

During difficult times stay focused,  continue with your daily routine, exercise and try your best to sleep! Keep in mind family and good friends are always great therapy when you need a smile!
